Client: Mahaffey Borough Municipal Authority
Year Completed: 2009
Project Cost: $2,200,000
GD&F designed a $2.2 million extension of the Mahaffey Borough wastewater system. The project serves the wastewater disposal needs of the Mahaffey Camp and Conference Center. Mahaffey Camp provides camping opportunities and serves as a spiritual retreat for members of the Christian & Missionary Alliance.
The new sanitary sewers replaced a system of holding tanks and wildcat sewers at the camp. The project included the following elements:
- Installation of 11,700 linear feet of 8″ sanitary sewer pipe and 5,200 L.F. of 3″ diameter force main pipe
- Campground sewer lines, typified by limited clearances between cottages, required careful excavation techniques
- New submersible sewage pumping station that collects Mahaffey Camp wastewater for conveyance via force main to the Mahaffey Borough treatment plant
- Connection of 190 permanent cottages and 26 common buildings such as dormitories, dining halls, public restrooms, showers and seasonal camping areas
- Horizontal directional boring of 600 ft of 3” pipe under the West Branch of the Susquehanna River
- Connection of 8 residences in the Byers Settlement area of Bell Township
- Replacement of emergency generators and pump controls at two (2) sewage pumping stations
