Altoona Wastewater Treatment Facilities – BNR Upgrade And Expansion
Part of a $65 million effort to comply with Chesapeake Bay nutrient limits, the project represents a tech-forward method of biological nutrient removal. An innovative hybrid process was designed for removing nutrients in a highly variable, wet-weather and seasonal environment. Major sustainability factors included use of existing plant resources and tankage, reduced power and chemical consumption and with effluent nutrient levels well below permitted discharge standards.
