The Muddy Run Regional Authority selected GD&F to design one of the largest wastewater projects in central Pennsylvania. Serving more than 1,300 residences in southern Clearfield County, the project was constructed for $18.75 million.
The project included the following elements:
- Wastewater collection system consisting of 202,500 ft. of 6″-12″ gravity sanitary sewer pipe, 981 manholes and manhole covers, 47,500 ft. of 1-1/4″-8″ force main pressure pipe and 30 individual and cluster-style grinder pumping units for 1,300 residential connections
- Wastewater conveyance system consisting of five (5) in-system pump stations & 2,000 gpm influent pump station
- Wastewater treatment facility consisting of a 400,000 GPD activated sludge (extended aeration) process with equalization, aeration and settling tanks, ultraviolet channel disinfection system, process control system, aerobic sludge digestion, control building (with garage, laboratory, conference room, administration area) aeration blowers, sludge processing building (with centrifuge and chemical feed system) and emergency generator
- The sewer service area includes the villages of Madera, Atlantic, Amesville (including Moshannon Valley School District), Banian Junction and Smoke Run in Bigler Township, Village of Janesville, Almaden, Fernwood, Viola and upper Ginter in Gulich Township, Villages of Becarria and New London in Beccaria Township and Raney Borough
GD&F provided all professional services including planning, engineering, design, bidding construction administration and construction inspection. The USDA Rural Utility Service provided a grant/loan funding package for the project, the largest in several years for the agency.
